1. To take into one’s family through legal means and raise as one’s own child.

Somehow that doesn’t even begin to cover the definition of the word.  Frankly I think the true meaning can change depending on who you ask.  Take my family for example:

To my beautiful biological 14 year old son it means a sibling, someone that will be with him no matter what, someone he can share laughs with, secret anecdotes of family, someone to hold memories with long after parents are gone.

To my fabulous husband whose commitment to his country took him far away from home missing many of our son’s milestones.  He would cherish the chance to do it again and maybe be there for more memories.

For me, hmmm, I guess for me adoption would mean filling up an unexplainable and indescribable part of a generally wonderful loving family.  You know, that feeling when you are blissfully happy and you still think something is missing.  In early 2013 we all realized that SOMEONE was missing.

If you have a question we can answer about the process as we document our journey, please leave us a message.  If you have a question of us or want to give us some encouragement we would love to hear that too.

  1. Wow, this is great news for you and your family. I am very happy for you, having a child is a wonderful gift, and sharing this love with the world is wonderful. I love all of the adoption advice you have provided for other parents looking into adopting as well. It is amazing how much work goes into this, and to share your experiences with others is a gift in itself to those parents who are looking to adopt. Congratulations, I wish you and your growing family the best.

  2. Dearest Jess, Chris, and Charlie. We are THRILLED for you and we love you dearly–even without legit fingerprints. I can only imagine you telling a joke about committing a crime–it makes me laugh and recall some pretty fun times at Mason where the “rules” got in the way. Cuidanos y un fuerte abrazo! Nos extraño un montón.
